Volume Literary Arts Magazine Spreads
Problem
The Sheldon, a well-known gallery and concert hall in St. Louis, launched Volume, its first-ever literary arts magazine. The challenge was to create a publication that could capture the diverse voices and stories connected to The Sheldon while still feeling cohesive and aligned with the institution's established identity.
Solution
The design approach for Volume focused on celebrating individuality within a unified visual framework. Each story is paired with a unique typeface and layout style that reflects the tone and character of the narrative. Despite the variety in design, the magazine maintains a consistent visual identity through the use of The Sheldon’s signature color palette. This balance between variety and cohesion allows Volume to reflect the richness of The Sheldon’s community while reinforcing its brand.
